DESCRIPTION: This organisation
offers individuals the opportunity to become involved in archaeology through
a wide variety of programs for adults, youths, and school groups. The Crow
Canyon Archaeological Center is dedicated to involving the public in the
study of archaeology and Native American cultures. Volunteers may participate
in long-term research on the ancestral Pueblo Indians by working alongside
professional archaeologists in excavation and laboratory work.
PERIOD: Basketmaker through
Pueblo periods in the Southwest.

LOCATION: Cortez, Colorado.

DURATION: 1 week; July to August.
AGE: Minimum 18, except family
excavation and week-long programmes for middle school and high school students
provide a good introduction to the archaeology of the Southwest. An intensive
3-week summer field school is available for older teens.
QUALIFICATIONS: No experience
necessary.
WORK: Excavation, artefact analysis,
and lab programmes.
