DESCRIPTION: The Roman
street called Via Amerina and the tombs in the necropolis of the nearby
city of Falerii Novi comprise this monumental site, which is among the
most important giving historical evidence of the Agro Falisco.
PERIOD: Roman; 3rd century BC
to 3rd century AD.
COUNTRY: Italy.
LOCATION: Between Civita Castellana
and Nepi, in the Province of Viterbo, about 40 miles (60km) north of Rome.
TRAVEL: Details provided upon
application. Participants must arrive Monday at 18:00 and leave Sunday
at 10:00.
DURATION: 1—2 weeks.
AGE: Minimum 18.
QUALIFICATIONS: No experience
necessary.
WORK: Excavation, survey, and
documentation for a larger project encompassing the whole layout of Via
Amerina, in order to create an environmental-archaeological park in the
area.
LANGUAGE: Italian, English.
ACCOMMODATION: In Casale Montemeso.
Rooms with bunks and shared bathrooms.
COST: EUR215 (approx.US$230)
per week; EUR335 (approx. US$350) per 2-week-session.
APPLICATION: Participants must
be members of the Gruppi Archeologici d'Italia. Membership fee of EUR 32
(approx.US$35, includes insurance and subscription to the magazine Archeologia)
can be paid at a local office or at the National office at the above address.
