DESCRIPTION: Excavation of a Palaeolithic site in the mountains of northern Spain. 

PERIOD: Palaeolithic.

COUNTRY: Spain.

LOCATION: Asturias County, Northern Spain. The site is remote and volunteers will be taken in a 4x4 vehicle to a drop-off point after which they will hike 30 min. in the mountains to the site and return again for pick-up at day's end.

TRAVEL: Arrive to Madrid or Bilbao airports, then get a ALSA or EASA coach to the city of Oviedo. Volunteers are collected in Oviedo following confirmation of dates.

DURATION: Minimum 6 weeks, maximum 8 weeks; July to August.

AGE: Minimum 20.

QUALIFICATIONS: The project favours archaeology or anthropology advanced students or professionals with prior experience in excavations and laboratory work, however will consider also other committed applicants.

WORK: Excavation, collecting, and processing sediment. Monday to Saturday, 10 hours per day. Mountain hiking, wet weather, and carrying sacks of sediment requiring physical stamina.

LANGUAGE: Spanish and English

ACCOMMODATION: Lodgings are provided in bunk beds in rooms holding up to 6 people. Volunteers must bring sleeping bags. 

COST: No charge. Room and board included. Travel expenses not included. Cooking or other home chores may be expected.

APPLICATION: Submit CV via e-mail stating studies and prior experience and a cover letter stating disposition to work for 6—8 weeks. 

NOTES: Bring mountain boots and raincoats or waterproofs.
